The Commissioner has decided to approve investment in the purchase of workforce management software for the North Yorkshire Police Force Control Room (FCR).

Background

North Yorkshire Police’s FCR in an essential function that handles all 999 and 101 calls from members of the public, and dispatches police resources to respond to emergencies and incidents.

To ensure that the staffing levels required to manage the volume of calls coming into the FCR 24/7 are fully understood and staff resources scheduled to work in line with the demand for service from members of the public, additional technology is needed. This will ensure that the FCR can take the most efficient approach to meeting public need, by analysing data to make sure that staffing levels are better matched to the demand being placed upon the service.

An initial investment of around £62,000 will be required to fund the purchase and installation of a workforce management solution, alongside a recurring revenue investment of around £130,000 per year to run, support and maintain the system.

The Commissioner’s Chief Finance Officer and S151 Officer has advised that the funding support this investment was included within the Change Pipeline that was included within the balanced medium term financial plan that was approved in February 2023 and therefore this is affordable to the Commissioner within current resources.
