The Commissioner has decided to approve investment in the refresh of body worn video cameras for North Yorkshire Police.

Background

North Yorkshire Police introduced body worn video capability in 2017. Body worn video continues to provide a vital operational capability and is used to keep both the public and Police Officers safe.

The existing body worn video equipment is now reaching the end of its lifespan, and to ensure that this important operational capability is maintain, the equipment needs to be replaced and a new support and maintenance contract put in place.

An initial investment of around £630,000 will be required to fund the purchase of replacement equipment, alongside a recurring revenue investment of around £40,000 per year.
